Ascension of The Lord

Ascension of The Lord

If ever two lives were bound up together in thought and purpose and love it was the lives of Jesus and Mary. From the moment of Mary's YES to the angel Gabriel, the Holy Spirit infused the Soul of Jesus into the miraculous Body being formed in the womb of Mary. Their Union did not cease at Jesus's Birth, but their communion of mind and heart continues into Heaven.

When Jesus gathered his faithful ones around him on Mount Olivet for his leave taking, how much he must have yearned to take his Blessed Mother with him to the Father! But she still had another mission to complete. She stayed behind to be a consoling and supporting presence for the apostles in all their struggles to establish the church for Jesus on Earth.  By her intimate knowledge of all that was in the Heart of Jesus, Mary was able to help St Peter and the apostles in their planning and their organizing, especially in the writing of the Gospels and in their outreach to their far flung missions.  ,

The Ascension of Jesus and the assumption of Mary are Jesus's  way of encouraging us that we too one day will be put together soul and body, and join Jesus and Mary in their Heavenly Glory!

Cistercian monastic life gives primary place of chanting the Opus Dei or Divine Office in community as well as personal time spent in sacred reading which fulfill the monk's sacred duty of seeking God.

Cistercian monastic life allows rooms for guests because all guests are to be received as Christ.  We never know if we have entertained angels.

Life in Common

Cistercian monastic life is communal:  We share all things in common as did the early Christian community so as to live in greater charity and union with Christ.
