The
changing agricultural markets and interests of the brothers has
resulted in the decision to begin making wine. As wine has a long
history on the property, dating back to 1881 with the great
vineyards of Leland Stanford, the decision to make wine on the property
again not only gives us a new industry, but acknowledges the history
of the land and the town of Vina. Several of the original buildings,
including the winery, still stand. Currently we are looking to restore
the winery and have already begun plans for sectioning off a section
of this enormous building for producing and storing our wine.
As
we are in an experimental stage, we have planted 10 varieties of
grapes in small lots, totaling 8 acres, for both red and white wines.
We are searching for the finest wines which our land and talents
can create. So far we have had excellent results and hope to begin
selling our wine in 2006!

We read that monks
should not drink wine at all, but since the monks of our day cannot be
convinced of this, let us at least agree to drink moderately, and not
to the point of excess, for wine makes even wise men go astray Sir 19:2).

The wonderful experience of the first harvest, coupled
with the very favorable acceptance and comments, helped us to decide
to expand the vineyard from our initial
three acres. |
