Abbey of New Clairvaux | Vina, CA

On May 5th, the monks of New Clairvaux celebrated the completion of the Chapter House trans-vaulted ceiling with benefactors and friends of the abbey.  After the Divine Office of Vespers, the monks led our guests in procession to the construction site.  The monks concluded the ceremony in the Cistercian tradition of singing the Salve Regina, the ancient Latin hymn to the Blessed Virgin.
The stones which lay silent for so many years once again echoes now with living voices.

Dear brothers, this is tremendous. I'm filled with admiration for what you have done in reconstructing this treasure and in planning to use it as your future abbey church. Your presence among us is a great grace.

The work was composed during the Middle Ages most probably by German monk Hermann of Reichenau and originally appeared in Latin, the prevalent language of Western Christianity until modern times. Traditionally it has been sung in Latin, though many translations exist. Thanks for sharing.
