Abbey of New Clairvaux | Vina, CA

Members of the Sacred Stones Steering Committee gathered for their annual meeting at the abbey this weekend.  They joined the monks in choir for Vespers, and were later invited to a Guadeamus with the monks in the Refectory.  We give thanks for their continued dedication to our building project!

On the Feast of St. Benedict 2010, Br. Stephen, Br. Francis, and Br. Chris were blessed by the Abbot with the Ministry of Lector.  Below are pictures.

Today we celebrated the funeral mass for Sue Rawlins, our longtime organist for the Sunday liturgy.  She was very dedicated to music and to our monastic community.  We are grateful for the many years of humble service that she provided for the monks.  May she rest in peace!

Although monks live on a vegetarian diet throughout the year, exceptions are made for special feasts and for certain holidays.  On the 5th of July we had a simple burger cook-out in the abbey to celebrate Independence Day (it was not celebrated on the actual day because the 4th fell on a Sunday).  Enjoy the pictures, and let us not forget the great responsibility that comes with freedom.

On July 2, 2010 the abbey celebrated it's 55th anniversary of existence at Vina, CA.  Learn more about our history.
